EVOLUTION OF A PLAY FUL BOY INTO A BOLD ADULT
There lived a boy named Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Ranchi .He played first class cricket for Jharkhand. Long hair was his style. His good wicket keeping and his hitting made him to play for India A in Nairobi in a triseries against Pakistan A and Kenya. Some solid innings there made the selectors to pick him for the 3 match series against Bangladesh in 2004.In his debut he made similarity with the master blaster. These two started with a duck in their first match. He wasn’t impressive in that series. But because of lack of a good wicket keeper gave him another chance. This time against the Pakistanis. He played an outstanding innings against them in Visak. His innings helped India easily pass the 350 run mark and win by more than fifty runs. It was this match, which led to the emergence of a fine wicket keeper batsman. Unfortunately India lost the series 2-4.
He played a crucial role in India’s 17 consecutive successful chases. Namely the 183* against Srilanka for chasing down about 300 runs. He along with Yuvi helped India to win the series against Pakistanis in their home. In that period when he went out to bat the crowd would cheer “DHONI DHONI”. But India’s successful chasing history ended in and against and West Indies. The 2007 World Cup was a tragedy for India. India was eliminated in the first stage group itself by Bangladesh. This led to many protests against the Indian team. Dhoni’s new house was destroyed. Dravid’s men in blue were beaten in the ODI series against England. India went to play in the T20 World Cup with a new captain and without the three greats of India. India went on to beat the teams, which were looking favorites and win the cup. India’s young team had a good welcome from the Indians who before protested in the world cup defeat. The captaincy changed Dhoni into a matured cricketer. He stopped taking needless risks and started looking for singles. The decisions taken by him became good for him. Dhoni’s men was able to win the last tri series in Australia in the summer. Dhoni is not just a mere captain but a good leader
